
Short Biography of Professor Fatiu A Arogundade
Professor Fatiu Abiola Arogundade MBBS (Lagos), 1990, FMCP 2001, ISN Fellow, 2002, FWACP 2005, FRCP Edin 2017, FRCP (London) 2018. He had his basic medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and postgraduate training in Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife. Professor Arogundade was promoted to the rank of Professor of Medicine at the Obafemi Awolowo University in 2011 and he is also a Honorary Consultant Physician / Nephrologist to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
His research interests are in general nephrology and renal replacement therapies. He had studied aetiopathogenesis and epidemiology of CKD in Nigeria looking at contributions of HIV, Hydrocarbons, Sickle Cell Disease and parasites. He had studied anaemia, bone disease, survival and quality of life in advanced chronic kidney disease. He has studied CAPD and kidney transplantation in Nigeria and currently examining modalities for retarding progression of CKD in Sickle Cell Disease as well as genomics of kidney disease in Africa. He has about 100 publications in National and international journals including 7 chapters in books. He is a reviewer to several local and international journals and the Editor in Chief of Journal of Clinical Sciences as well as editorial adviser to Tropical Journal of Nephrology. He has served in several committees of the ISN and he is currently a member of Educational Ambassadors committee and African Regional Board. He has served as external examiner to several medical schools and has delivered several invited lectures.
He has also been involved in administration as he served as the Vice- Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University between 2011 and 2013. He is the Chairman and Chief Examiner of the Faculty of Internal Medicine, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Past Secretary / Treasurer to African Association of Nephrology, President of Nigerian Association of Nephrology and President of Transplant Association of Nigeria. He has mentored about 35 postgraduate students. He is married with children and his hobbies include travelling and reading.
